WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
SPEECH & LANGUAGE?
SPEECH refers to the sounds we produce either single or within words.
LANGUAGE is how we acquire words or our "content", arrange words together to "form" ideas and how we then follow rules to share or "use" these words to communicate with others.
RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE: words that child knows
-if asked, child can point to requested item
EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE: language that we can express to others
-if asked, child can name item
-how many words a child puts together to express an idea
PRAGMATICS-language use and our understanding of the rules of communication
-child follows rules of social communication (I speak, then you speak, etc.)
